Congratulations to Dr. Andy Brendel, THS Technology Education Teacher, Triad's 2023-2024 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award winner.
Dr. Andy Brendel exemplifies excellence in teaching through his remarkable ability to engage, inspire, and educate his students effectively. As a Career and Technical Educator (CTE) teaching a variety of technology education courses, Dr. Brendel is a pioneer in his field who constantly seeks innovative methods to enhance the learning experience for his students. He embraces technology and creative strategies to make his classroom engaging and relevant. Dr. Brendel implemented the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering curriculum to prepare students with career-readiness skills for college and beyond. Through his curriculum, students adopt a problem-solving mindset and are engaged in compelling, real-world challenges that help develop a deeper understanding and promote creative thinking. When students leave his classroom, they are prepared with skills to step into any career path they may choose.
Dr. Brendel extends his influence and expertise far beyond the classroom as a dedicated and knowledgeable running coach for Triad’s successful Cross Country Team. He is also the sponsor of Triad’s Robotics program. His influence and motivating spirit in both of these extracurricular activities have left a lasting impression and impact on his student-athletes.
Dr. Brendel is an inspiring educator who is a lifelong learner himself--continually seeking opportunities for professional growth and development. As a testament to his continuing education, he recently completed his doctoral degree. He serves as a role model for not only his students but also his fellow colleagues by demonstrating the value of ongoing education. As the CTE director, Dr. Brendel spends countless hours securing supplies through various grants to make sure the department has what it needs to be successful. Most recently, he was an integral part in the planning and development of technology education classes at our middle school. These classes, which are offered to 7th and 8th graders, provide exposure to trades as a career focus prior to entering high school.
Dr. Andy Brendel continues to be an inspiration on his journey of excellence in teaching, empowering students, and shaping a brighter future. He truly exemplifies all of the qualities of excellence in education and through his extraordinary contributions to the Triad District, he is well deserving of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
